ARCHIVE AUGUST 21, 2018: A Chat With Nathan And Adam of the Loyal Company of the River Valley Podcast

**originally posted on Win Column Sports** This was shortly after FC Edmonton and the CPL announced their union. It interesting to re-watch that video 16 months later.

I asked Nathan and Adam the questions below which all target the issue of drawing more fans into Clarke Stadium and put the video on YouTube. You know why? Because the excitement of soccer needs to be seen and heard!
1) Edmonton is not known as a soccer town. The premature announcement of the death of FC Edmonton brought out the cynics. The rise of the YEG4CPL movement silenced (for now) a few cynics as it led to the return of the Eddies. Please explain your role in the movement.
2) By my use of the word soccer and not football you can tell I’m not really a soccer guy. Yet I became a Rally Rabbit and put down a season deposit based on my few experiences catching a game. If you worked for the Eddies, how would you promote the team?
3) I would promote the atmosphere but again, I’m not really there for the soccer. For the soccer snobs who relegate themselves to The Premier League or La Liga, how do you get those folks to catch a game?
4) The new Canadian Premier League, their will be fan buses to Calgary. That alone sold me on the this league over the almost now defunct NASL. Describe the excitement behind the battle of Alberta now having a soccer edition?

Meet Edmonton Sports Fan Kim Manzo

Edmonton Sports Fans is looking to chat with a few fans. Today we speak with Kim Manzo, a self confessed "ex crazy soccer lady" who currently works with the Edmonton Stingers Basketball team. 1)Talk about your soccer super fan self. My time as a super soccer fan started with being born to an Italian family. It was always soccer or CFL football in our house. Once I got older, I started with helping my brother coach my nephew, to soccer director of my community and then jumping on the North Zone board, and then to working for FC Edmonton. I loved the professional aspect of working the ins and out of club life, but my passion started with youth soccer and bringing the best program to each child that stepped out on the pitch, but politics eventually got in the way as it does, and that is why I retired from being a volunteer after 15 years but super excited for the Euro Cup this year! Go Italy! (mocking can commence now) 2) Talk about your personal excitement in regards to...

ARCHIVE APRIL 29, 2019: Let’s Talk About The Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League

** originally posted on Win Column Sports** Some may remember when the NLL season started back in January I created the “ Not-So Technical Guide For Any New NLL Fans, ” as I welcomed myself back into lacrosse fandom. While the Calgary Roughnecks provide a great experience for lacrosse fans in Alberta,  game recaps  proved impossible with Calgary being the now-former Edmonton Rush’s major rival. Enter the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League ( RMLL )! In 2007, I was hired as the “Marketing Director” for the Sherwood Park Jr. B Titans. Following the early model of Bruce Urban promoting his Edmonton Rush, we tried zany stunts to attract crowds. Some worked (dunk tank), some didn’t (who would have thought a fake cow wouldn’t work!). In 2008, I began my sales career with the Rush. I would still attend the odd Titans game and Spruce Grove Slash Sr. B game, but admittedly, the games became further and further apart. All lacrosse watching stopped when the Rush left Edmonton. So how...

Baseball in Edmonton

“Baseball in Edmonton” By Len Nunes On October 24, 2003 T he Globe And Mail  wrote an article discussing the sale of the Triple A baseball team the Edmonton Trappers by its owners the Edmonton Eskimos. "Although the Edmonton Trappers won the Pacific Coast League championship in 2002 and averaged slightly better than 5,400 fans a game this season, the Eskimos announced yesterday they have sold the baseball team... The Eskimos' president and chief executive officer, Hugh Campbell, said that selling the baseball team became a necessity when the rival Cannons left Calgary in 2002 to become the Albuquerque Isotopes… "Scheduling, air and cross-border travel and the Canadian dollar were also factors in the PCL being desirous of not having a Canadian team in the league."” Fast forward over 16 years and the last four reasons listed by the then Eskimos President and CEO still ring true. Any wishes of seeing "affiliated baseball", meaning a team that is dir...
